It’s almost impossible to walk down any high street without being faced with a multitude of hairdressing salons. So how do you choose which one you want a career with? We spoke to Richmond Salon Manager and Technical Director Zak Twohig about why Trevor Sorbie was the salon group for him…
“I’ve been in the industry now for 20 years. I started hairdressing when I was just 15, when I moved from my hometown of Ebbw Vale to Cardiff. I’ve always had a busy and varied career, and my time in Cardiff spanned over 15 years. I worked with the most reputable salons in South Wales overseeing their colour departments. From there I then took on my first management role.
Choosing a career at Trevor Sorbie
When I was in my early 30s, having been working for over half my life, I decided to take a break. I moved to Manchester to take some time to think about my next step, and enjoy a slower pace of life for while. However, this went up in smoke the day I was walking through Spring Gardens in central Manchester. I saw the Trevor Sorbie salon. I hadn’t realised up until that point that he had a salon in Manchester, but I knew instantly that I wanted to work there. Trevor has always been one of my hair heroes.I’ve known his name since I started my training with Vidal Sassoon, so applying was a no-brainer for me. I was back the next day with a CV, and nervously awaited a call.
