The Wave (1992)
Artists: Trevor Sorbie Team
Inspired by Trevor Sorbie’s 1992 Collection and His Enduring Fascination with the Wave Form
Throughout his career, Trevor Sorbie was drawn to the wave.
Whether interpreted through soft movement, sculptural styling or graphic shape, the form appeared time and again throughout his work. For Trevor, the wave represented elegance, balance and beauty in its simplest form, offering endless opportunities for reinterpretation and reinvention.
One of the most recognisable expressions of this fascination appeared in his 1992 collection, where Trevor explored the relationship between creativity and wearability. Reflecting on the collection, he described it as a reminder that “sometimes, less is more” – a creative challenge to produce work that felt both beautiful and accessible whilst still carrying a distinctive twist.

About the Artists
Created by members of the Trevor Sorbie artistic team, this interpretation celebrates a shape and philosophy that remained central to Trevor’s work throughout his career.
The Recreation
Inspired by both Trevor’s 1992 collection and his lifelong fascination with the wave form, this interpretation explores movement, shape and restraint.
While many of Trevor’s most celebrated creations pushed creative boundaries, he also understood the power of simplicity. This recreation honours that balance, demonstrating how a single shape can be revisited and reimagined in countless ways.
Trevor’s Legacy
The wave appeared throughout Trevor’s work because he understood that great ideas never stand still. By continually revisiting familiar forms with fresh eyes, he showed that creativity is not always about creating something new, but about discovering new possibilities within what already exists.
