Finger Waves
Artist: Pablo Kuemin
About the Artist
Pablo Kuemin is the co-founder of Hair Mastery and an internationally recognised hairdresser and educator. His connection to Trevor Sorbie began through a shared appreciation for the craft of hairdressing, a meeting that would leave a lasting impression on them both.
A Shared Respect for the Craft
Unlike the other works in this exhibition, this piece is not inspired by a specific Trevor Sorbie collection, haircut or technique.
Instead, it celebrates a moment of connection between two artists brought together by a shared admiration for the craft of hairdressing.
Pablo and Trevor first met at a hairdressing event in Spain, where Pablo was demonstrating the finger wave technique on stage. Looking for assistance from the audience, Pablo was surprised to see Trevor Sorbie become the first person to volunteer.
Afterwards, Trevor explained that he had stepped forward because he was fascinated by the technique itself.
For Pablo, that moment left a lasting impression. Despite Trevor’s extraordinary achievements and influence within the industry, he remained genuinely curious and excited by great hairdressing. His willingness to learn, observe and appreciate the work of others was as much a part of his legacy as the iconic looks he created.
The Piece
The finger wave is one of hairdressing’s most enduring techniques, dating back to the 1920s and requiring patience, precision and technical skill to execute well.
Through this piece, Pablo celebrates Trevor’s appreciation for craftsmanship and his belief that great hairdressing begins with mastering the fundamentals. More than a recreation of a look, it is a tribute to the respect, curiosity and passion for the craft that connected them.
Trevor’s Legacy
Trevor’s influence was not defined solely by the collections he created or the awards he received. It was also found in his generosity, his curiosity and his enduring fascination with hairdressing itself.
This piece celebrates a man who never stopped learning, never stopped asking questions and never lost his love for the craft.
