The Wedge (1974)
Created by Trevor Sorbie whilst working at Vidal Sassoon, The Wedge became one of the most influential haircuts in modern hairdressing.
Defined by its distinctive teardrop shape, precision cutting and architectural structure, The Wedge challenged conventional ideas of what a haircut could be. The look combined technical excellence with a strong visual identity, helping establish Trevor as one of the industry’s most exciting creative talents.
Its impact extended far beyond the salon. The Wedge became the first haircut to be featured as a double-page spread in British Vogue and remains one of the most recognisable and celebrated haircuts ever created. More than fifty years later, its principles continue to influence haircutting techniques around the world.

The Recreation
For this exhibition, Richard Ashforth returns to the haircut that helped define a generation of hairdressing.
Rather than simply recreating a historic haircut, this interpretation celebrates the enduring relevance of Trevor’s original vision. It honours the precision, innovation and craftsmanship that made The Wedge a landmark moment in hairdressing history, while demonstrating why its influence remains as powerful today as it was in 1974.
